What ages do you teach?

Our group classes are for kids in grades K-12, from complete beginners to tournament players. Adults are welcome too — adult lessons are private 1-on-1 only.

My child has never played chess. Where should they start?

Chess Starter I. It is designed for complete beginners and teaches the game from scratch. No experience needed.

Where are classes held?

All classes meet in person at our academy: 10 Grace Ave, Suite 6, Great Neck, NY. We also run after-school programs at local schools and offer private lessons online.

What class levels do you offer?

Students are grouped by level in small classes (group classes are for kids in grades K-12):

  • Chess Starter I — complete beginners
  • Chess Starter II — continuing beginners (USCF unrated to 300)
  • Intermediate I — USCF unrated to 600
  • Intermediate II — USCF 600 to 1000
  • Advanced — tournament players (USCF 1000+)
  • Private 1-on-1 — any level, fully personalized

When are classes held? How long is a semester?

Group classes meet 1 to 3 days per week, after school on weekdays and on Saturdays. Semesters run in Fall (September to December), Winter (January to March), and Spring (April to June).

What are the prices?

  • Group classes (Starter I through Advanced): pricing depends on the number of weeks in the semester (for example, $600 for a 15-week semester)
  • Private 1-on-1: from $80 per session (in person or online)
  • Single class drop-in: $50

What if we miss a class?

We offer makeup classes for busy families. Just let us know ahead of time.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes. One-on-one coaching is available in person at our Great Neck academy or online over Zoom, with flexible scheduling for any level. This is also how adults learn with us, since group classes are for kids. Online lessons are private only.

Can we try a class before signing up?

Yes. A single drop-in class is $50, a good way to see if the program is the right fit.

Do you offer free trials or discounts?

We do not offer free trials, and our pricing is the same for every family, so we do not offer discounts on lessons.

Do you run chess tournaments?

Yes. We host USCF-rated tournaments at our academy, including Sunday action tournaments (4-round Swiss, G/25;d5) and scholastic events for K-12 players.

Do you offer summer camp?

Yes. We run weekly summer chess camps (Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 3 PM) at our Great Neck academy, plus single-day mini camps on school holidays. Lunch is included for full-day campers. See our website for current dates and rates.

Do you have a rewards program for kids?

Yes. Kids earn points through classes and tournaments and can redeem them for prizes. It keeps them motivated and makes learning even more fun.

What should my child bring to class?

Nothing. Boards, pieces, and clocks are all provided.

Who are the coaches?

Our coaches are expert-level players, including USCF National Masters, with years of experience teaching K-12 students.

Do you teach at schools?

Yes. We partner with schools for after-school programs and in-school chess curriculum. Schools interested in starting a program can contact us directly.
